Equipment

  • 1 medium skillet
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Sharp Knife
  • 1 bowl (for seasoning the shrimp)
  • 1 spoon or tongs (for stirring shrimp)
  • 1 microplane or citrus juicer (for lime)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb medium to large shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning or homemade blend
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 8 small flour tortillas or corn tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage or lettuce
  • 1 avocado diced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro chopped
  • 2 limes cut into wedges

Optional toppings: salsa, sour cream, hot sauce, cheese

Instructions

  • Prepare the Shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels and place them in a bowl.
Toss them in the taco seasoning, ensuring they’re evenly coated. Set aside.
  • Cook the Shrimp: Heat the olive oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the shrimp to the pan and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they are pink and opaque. Remove from heat.
  • Warm the Tortillas: While the shrimp is cooking, warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave for 10 seconds to make them soft and pliable.
  • Assemble the Tacos: Place a few shrimp in each warm tortilla.
Top with shredded cabbage, diced avocado, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime juice.
Optionally, drizzle with sour cream, salsa, or hot sauce.
  • Serve: Serve the tacos immediately, garnished with extra lime wedges and your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Shrimp Size: Use medium to large shrimp for the best texture, but smaller shrimp will work fine too.
  • Taco Seasoning: Feel free to adjust the taco seasoning to your preference. Add a pinch of cayenne pepper for extra heat.
  • Custom Toppings: You can add additional toppings like a creamy cilantro-lime sauce or mango salsa for a burst of sweetness.
  • Low-Carb Version: Use lettuce leaves instead of tortillas to make this dish a low-carb option.
  • Grilled Shrimp: For a smoky flavor, you can also grill the shrimp on skewers instead of cooking them in a skillet.
  • Make-Ahead Option: Prep the toppings and shrimp in advance for an easy, quick taco night.
