Equipment

  • 1 grill or grill pan
  • 1 Tongs (for flipping the halloumi)
  • 1 Basting Brush (optional for olive oil)
  • 1 Knife (for slicing halloumi)
  • 1 Plate (for serving)

Ingredients

  • 1 block 200g Halloumi Cheese
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 tsp Lemon Juice optional
  • Salt to taste
  • Black Pepper to taste
  • Fresh Herbs optional, like thyme or rosemary

Instructions

Slice the Halloumi

  • Cut the halloumi into ½ inch thick slices.

Preheat the Grill

  • Preheat the grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grill grates or pan to prevent sticking.

Prepare the Halloumi

  • Brush the halloumi slices with olive oil. You can also drizzle lemon juice over them for a bit of zest if desired.

Grill the Halloumi

  • Place the halloumi slices on the preheated grill. Grill for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy on the outside.

Serve

  • Once grilled, remove the halloumi from the grill and serve immediately. Garnish with fresh herbs and an extra squeeze of lemon if desired.

Notes

  • Storage: Leftover grilled halloumi can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat on the grill or in a pan to restore some of its crispness.
  • Variations: Feel free to experiment with marinades. A garlic and herb marinade works wonderfully to enhance the flavor of the halloumi. You can also add a sprinkle of chili flakes for some heat.
  • Serving Suggestions: Grilled halloumi pairs beautifully with fresh salads, grilled vegetables, or even as a topping for a flatbread or wrap. It can also be served with a tangy tzatziki sauce or balsamic glaze for extra flavor.
