Equipment

  • Grater (1)
  • Cheesecloth or kitchen towel (1)
  • Mixing bowl (1)
  • Measuring Spoons (1 set)
  • Measuring cup (1)
  • Knife (1)
  • Garlic press (optional) (1)
  • Stirring spoon (1)

Ingredients

  • 1 medium cucumber peeled and grated
  • 1 ½ cups Greek yogurt preferably full-fat
  • 2 cloves garlic minced or crushed
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice freshly squeezed
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the cucumber: Peel the cucumber and grate it finely.
Place the grated cucumber into a cheesecloth or kitchen towel and gently squeeze out the excess moisture.
This prevents your tzatziki from becoming watery.
  • Combine the ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, fresh dill, and lemon juice.
    Stir until well combined.
  • Add olive oil and season: Drizzle in the olive oil and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir again to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed.
  • Chill the tzatziki: Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This chilling time allows the flavors to meld together, creating a more flavorful dip.
  • Serve and enjoy: After chilling, give the tzatziki a final stir before serving.
Serve with pita, fresh vegetables, grilled meats, or as a side dish to your favorite Mediterranean meal.

Notes

  • Consistency tip: If the tzatziki is too thick, you can thin it out by adding a small splash of water or extra lemon juice to reach your desired consistency.
  • Dill substitution: Fresh dill is ideal for the most vibrant flavor, but you can use dried dill in a pinch. If using dried dill, reduce the amount to 1 teaspoon.
  • Garlic adjustment: If you're sensitive to garlic, feel free to reduce the amount or omit it entirely for a milder flavor.
  • Make ahead: Tzatziki tastes even better after sitting in the fridge for a few hours or overnight as the flavors have more time to develop.
