Equipment

  • 1 Knife (for slicing vegetables)
  • 1 Cutting Board (for chopping the vegetables)
  • 1 Butter Knife (for spreading butter or cream cheese)
  • 1 Sandwich Press or Toaster (optional for toasting bread)

Ingredients

  • 4 slices Whole Wheat or White Bread
  • 1 medium Cucumber sliced thinly
  • 1 large Tomato sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Butter or Cream Cheese optional for spreading
  • 1 teaspoon Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper freshly cracked, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Dill or Basil optional, for garnish
  • 1/2 teaspoon Lemon Juice optional, for extra zest

Instructions

  • Prepare the Vegetables: Wash and dry the cucumber and tomato.
Slice the cucumber into thin rounds and the tomato into thick slices.
  • Prepare the Bread: If desired, lightly toast the bread slices for extra crunch.
If not, you can leave the bread soft. Spread a thin layer of butter or cream cheese on each slice of bread.
  • Assemble the Sandwich: On one slice of bread, layer the cucumber slices evenly, followed by the tomato slices.
Add a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
  • Season and Garnish: Sprinkle with fresh dill or basil if desired.
Optionally, add a squeeze of lemon juice for added freshness.
  • Serve: Place the second slice of bread on top to complete the sandwich.
Cut into halves or quarters for easy serving and enjoy immediately!

Notes

  • Bread Options: You can use any type of bread you like, from gluten-free to sourdough. Toasting the bread will add extra crunch and texture.
  • Vegan Options: To make this sandwich vegan, simply use plant-based butter or avocado as the spread.
  • Additional Ingredients: Feel free to customize with extras such as cheese, avocado, or grilled chicken if you're looking for a heartier sandwich.
  • Storage: While this sandwich is best enjoyed fresh, you can store it in an airtight container for a few hours. To prevent sogginess, store the cucumber and tomato separately from the bread until ready to assemble.
