Maria G. Brooks
Churro French Toast is a decadent and irresistible breakfast treat that combines the best of French toast and churros.
Each slice of bread is dipped in a cinnamon-infused egg mixture, cooked to golden perfection, and then coated in a crispy cinnamon-sugar crust.
The combination of textures—crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside—makes this dish a true indulgence for breakfast, brunch, or even dessert.

Equipment

  • 1 large bowl
  • 1 shallow bowl (for cinnamon-sugar)
  • 1 Large Skillet or Griddle
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 butter knife or basting brush

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of thick-cut bread preferably day-old or slightly stale
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk can use dairy or non-dairy milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon for the batter
  • 1 tablespoon sugar optional, for extra sweetness
  • Butter for cooking
  • 1/4 cup sugar for cinnamon-sugar coating
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon for cinnamon-sugar coating

Instructions

Prepare the Cinnamon-Sugar Coating

  • In a shallow bowl, mix together 1/4 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon.
    Set this mixture aside.

Make the French Toast Batter

  • In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and sugar (if using).
    Ensure everything is well combined.

Heat the Skillet

  • Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a small amount of butter to coat the pan.

Dip the Bread

  • Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, making sure both sides are fully coated, allowing any excess batter to drip off.

Cook the French Toast

  • Place the dipped bread onto the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.

Coat with Cinnamon-Sugar

  • Immediately roll each slice of French toast in the cinnamon-sugar mixture, coating it thoroughly.

Serve

  • Serve your Churro French Toast with whipped cream, fresh berries, or a drizzle of syrup.
    Enjoy!

Notes

  • Bread Choices: Brioche, challah, or any hearty bread works well for this recipe as they absorb the egg mixture without falling apart.
  • Cinnamon-Sugar Coating: Make sure to coat the French toast while it's still warm for the best crispy texture.
  • Topping Ideas: Customize with whipped cream, fresh berries, a drizzle of maple syrup, or even a dusting of extra cinnamon-sugar.
  • Dairy-Free: To make this recipe dairy-free, substitute the milk with a plant-based milk like almond or oat milk and use dairy-free butter for cooking.
