Equipment

  • 1 medium saucepan (for heating the base mixture)
  • 1 mixing bowl (for peanut butter swirl)
  • 1 spoon or spatula (for stirring the mixture)
  • 1 airtight container (for freezing the ice cream)
  • Optional: Ice cream scooper

Ingredients

For the Chocolate Ice Cream Base:

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Peanut Butter Swirl:

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Optional:

  • 1/4 cup crushed peanuts or chocolate chips for added texture

Instructions

Prepare the Chocolate Ice Cream Base:

  • In a medium saucepan, combine heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, and cocoa powder. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Bring to a simmer, then remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Allow the mixture to cool completely and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Make the Peanut Butter Swirl:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine peanut butter, powdered sugar, butter, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth. If the mixture is too thick, microwave for 15-20 seconds to soften.

Combine and Swirl:

  • Once the chocolate base is chilled, pour it into a large mixing bowl or container. Gently fold in the peanut butter mixture to create swirls.

Freeze:

  • Transfer the ice cream mixture into an airtight container. Freeze for 4-6 hours or until firm.

Serve:

  • Scoop into bowls or cones and enjoy!

Notes

  • No Ice Cream Maker: This recipe is easy to make without an ice cream maker. Just refrigerate the chocolate base, create the peanut butter swirl, and freeze the mixture in a container.
  • Texture Tips: Let the ice cream sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving to soften slightly. This will make scooping easier and improve the texture.
  • Optional Add-ins: Feel free to add mix-ins like crushed peanuts, chocolate chips, or mini marshmallows to make the ice cream even more indulgent.
