  • 1 small bowl (for taco seasoning, optional)
  • 1 cutting board (for chopping toppings)
  • 1 knife (for chopping toppings)
  • 1 lime juicer (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning or homemade seasoning, see notes
  • 1/4 cup water for taco seasoning
  • 8 soft flour tortillas or 8 crispy corn taco shells
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese cheddar or Mexican blend
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup salsa
  • 1 avocado sliced (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro chopped (optional)
  • 1 lime cut into wedges

Instructions

  • Cook the Ground Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula.
Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 7-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  • Season the Beef: Add the taco seasoning and water (according to the seasoning packet instructions) to the beef.
Stir well to combine and simmer for 3-4 minutes until the seasoning is absorbed and the beef is evenly coated.
  • Prepare the Tortillas: While the beef is cooking, warm the tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side, or heat the taco shells according to package instructions.
  • Assemble the Tacos: Place a spoonful of the seasoned beef into each tortilla or taco shell.
Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, salsa, and sliced avocado.
  • Serve: Garnish with fresh cilantro and lime wedges. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Taco Seasoning: For a homemade seasoning, combine chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Adjust according to taste.
  • Vegetarian Option: You can substitute ground beef with black beans or lentils for a vegetarian version of the tacos.
  • Extra Toppings: Feel free to add jalapeños, olives, or other vegetables to customize the tacos further.
  • Leftovers: The beef taco filling can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat before serving.
